Summer time in Wellington
Posted on 22 January 2010 by Karolina Gorton
Since 2008 Wellington has been my second home and I don’t regret about my choice. It’s a great place to live, study and practice English. Kiwis – it’s the common name for New Zealanders – speak very fast, but they slow down with the speed of their talk if they find that it’s your second language. They are interested about your home country and culture. They are very happy to share with you their own culture.

And Wellington… - it’s a great and vibrant city (even if the weather hasn’t been perfect recently). Many things happen around during the summer time - for example - till the end of January you can go to the Wellington Botanic Garden where every night are free and life concerts. You can come with friends and bring some food, and have an evening siesta in the garden with music and beautifully displayed lights on the trees. If you feel like dancing then it’s a great place to do it!!!

Wellington offer many things during the summer. If you like theatre and you would like to be involved with some alternative and ‘fringy ‘ theatre performances and actions then you should involve yourself to help preparing and running the New Zealand Fringe Festival which will start on the 12th of February. They always need volunteers to help them. Last summer I was working as a volunteer during that festival and I got lots of great experiences, saw many theatre shows and met many people who have become my friends.

Wellington is great! Just enjoy it!

Ps.: And if you are high enough up the mountains then you can have a white Christmas. I had – see the photo. It was wonderful to be up the mountains in the Nelson Lakes National Park.
